2221C Gold Yarrow (Achillea filipendulina)

This beautiful plant often reaches 3' tall with yellow flowers and fern-like foliage. The flower heads dry well for using in winter arrangements and also in wreaths. Used fresh, they are a staple for cut flower arrangements with a vase life of up to 14 days. Yarrow is used in courage, love and exorcism blends, as well as those to increase psychic powers. 50 seeds $1.75

HE744 - Yarrow Herb (Achillea millefolium) - Cut/Powder - $4.00/ounce

Yellow Evening Primrose (Oenathera biennis)

Scott Cunningham mentions this under "Yellow Evening Primrose" rather than just as "Evening Primrose" so I have included it in both under "E" and here. Although used for medicinal purposes, this plant's only magickal use, according to Scott Cunningham, was by the Native Americans to ensure a good hunt.

H251 Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis)

This is an erect biennial herb which grows 3-6' tall. During the first year, it has a basal rosette of leaves and a hairy stem from which lance-shaped leaves grow. During the second year, it has showy, yellow, lemon-scented, 4-petalled flowers which are about 2" across and bloom only in diminished light or in the dark. An infusion of the plant has stimulating effect on the liver, spleen and digestive system. Has often been used to treat mental depression. 20 seeds $1.95

FS490 Pink Evening Primrose (Oenothera)

This is a lovely border plant that grows only to 12". It has silky, rose-colored blooms that deepen to a butter-yellow center. The flowers open in late evening to release soft fragrance. It would also make a wonderful centerpiece for a hanging basket. The magickal use given for this plant is for hunting as used by Native Americans, however, it is a delightful plant to tantalize the senses, which makes it a good plant for bringing happiness into the home. 20 seeds $1.95

HE752 - Yerba Mate (Ilex paraguaiesis) - Cut/Powdered - $3.00/ounce

This is the South American "Holly" tree. You will find it in the mountains of Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. It grows to about 20' with oval, light green leaves. Contrary to the North American Holly, Mate has longer leaves, lighter in colour, no berries and no prickly spines that so readily identify it's northern cousin. The leaves contain caffeine, neochlorogenic and chlorogenic acids as well as throbromine catechols and these properties are why it makes an excellent tonic. It is also used much the same way as coffee and/or tea are used in North America and Europe. In magick, Yerba Mate is used for fidelity, love and lust rituals.

HE753 - Yerba Santa (Eriodyction glutinosum) - Cut/Powdered - $4.00.ounce

Yerba Santa is a common name for all 8 species of Eriodyction which are all native to the Southwestern US and the adjacent Mexican states. They are low, resinous evergreen shrubs with simple, hairy, sticky leaves and curved custers of white, purple or blue flowers. Any of the species can be used magickally in beauty, healing and protection mixtures as well as those for increasing psychic powers.

LF132 Japanese Yew (Taxus cuspidata)

All 8 Taxus species are hardy, slow-growing, long-lived, densely leaved evergreens. This one makes a good evergreen hedge for zones 4-8. It prefers moist, but well drained soils and can reach a height of 20' in sun or partial shade. It makes a very durable hedge with flat, soft needles and bright red berries in fall. Both the leaves and fruit are poisonous. Space plants 2-4' apart. Magickally, this plant is rarely used because of its toxicity and probably because the main use has been to "raise the dea". However, planting this in the garden can serve to protect the garden and the home. 100 seed pack, $7.50

HE754 - Yohimbe Bark (Pausinystalia) - Cut/Powdered - $11.00/ounce

The traditional use for Yohimbe is in love and lust potions. If you should ever use if for this, it should be consumed in very small quantities only. Mama does not recommend using the herb this way, but rather adding it to love and lust mixtures to give extra strength to them.

Although Ylang-Ylang is not mentioned by Scott Cunningham in the book, it is listed here because it makes a wonderful addition to any love spell. Just a drop of the oil is sure to help bring romance into one's life.

9612 Ylang-Ylang Tree (Cananga odorata)

This is well known for the rich perfumed fragrance of its blossoms. The trunk has a crooked, contorted shape which gives the small tree a very special appearance. It will grow up to 10' given proper conditions which include lots of warmth and bright light. 5 seeds $3.50

SO535 Ylang-Ylang Vine (Artabotrys)

This is a shrubby vine with large 5-6" leaves and sweet-smelling flowers that make this a must have for the serious grower. It also needs lots of light and warmth to grow. 4 seeds $2.50
