HR105 Balm, Lemon (Melissa officinalis)

Lemon Balm is also known by a number of different names, including Bee Balm, Lemon Balsam, Melissa, Sweet Balm, Sweet Clover and Sweet Melissa. It is used in all manner of love, healing and success formulae. It is good for potpourri and the flowers attract bees so if you keep bees, rub some on the hives to attract new bees and keep the old ones home. The lemon-scented leaves are used to make teas and cool drinks which are thought to relieve asthma, migraine headaches and toothaches. The tea has a light, lemony flavor that needs no other flavorings. In fact, it is a good flavoring herb to mix with other herbal teas. It is a hardy perennial that grows to 2-4' and prefers light sandy soil and full sun to partial shade. 25 seeds $1.75

NW26 Heavenly Bamboo (Nandina domestica)

This is the closest we have to Bamboo (Bambusa vulgaris). Bamboo is used in protection, hex-breaking, luck and wish magick. This is a member of the barberry family that has a striking resemblance to bamboo with leathery, bluish-green leaves blushed with purple, bronze and red when new. It has attractive long clusters of white flowers in spring and very ornamental red berries in winter. It likes full sun to partial shade and is cold hardy to 5 degrees outside but makes a good container plant inside. Start some now for a jump on next year. 10 seeds $1.50

1107 Flowering Banana (Musa)

This is a compact banana plant for indoors that only grows to about 3'. Leaves, flowers and fruits are used in prosperity and money rituals, as well as for fertility. It has attractive flowers are followed by small banana fruit. The seeds are slow to germinate but well worth the wait. It makes a great gift!. 5 seeds $3.00

SO350 Banyan Tree (Ficus benghalensis)

This Hindu holy tree is also known as Arched Fig, Indian Fig Tree, Indian God Tree and Vada Tree. It is said that just to sit under one brings luck. It is a huge tropical tree with heart-shaped ovate leaves. As it gets older, it will develop silt roots which give it a very interesting appearance. This tree can easily be raised inside if kept properly pruned. 8 seeds $2.50

7878 Bay (Laurus nobilis)

This is the same tree that provided the wreaths that Romans used as crowns. It is known by many names including Baie, Bay Laurel, Bay Tree, Daphne, Grecian Laurel, Laurel, Laurier d'Apollon, Laurier Sauce, Noble Laurel, Roman Laurel and Sweet Bay. It is a wonderful all-purpose magickal herb being used for psychic pursuits, proteciton, purification, love and wishes. It is a very hardy evergreen that can grow to 50'or more outside. It is loaded with sprays of greenish-yellow 4-petalled flowers in Spring. 3 seeds $2.50

Surprisingly, this is a multipurpose herb. It is used in protection, exorcism and love blends as well as for reconciliations and to add extra potency to other formulae.

HR150 Lady's Bedstraw (Galium verum)

This can be used as a ground cover or fresh or dry in flower arrangements. It is also used in love formulae. Roots produce an orange-red dye and the stems and leaves produce a yellow dye. 50 seeds $1.75

H045 Belladonna (Atropa belladonna)

This very powerful and poisonous ancient herb is also known as Banewort, Black Cherry, Deadly Nightshade, Death's Herb, Devil's Cherries, Divale, Dwale, Dwaleberry, Dwayberry, Fair Lady, Great Morel, Sorcerer's Berry and Witch's Berry. It is part of the "flying" potions of old. Today, it is rarely used, even magickally, because of the toxicity, but it does make an interesting plant, even if not used. It does have many medicinal benefits but since most parts of the plants are so toxic, it should only be used by trained persons. It has been used as a surgical anesthetic and for treating asthma and cardiac disease. It is a perennial that grows to about 3' with dull green leaves and single, bell-shaped, purplish-brown flowers that bloom in June and July and shiny black berries that appear about September. 10 seeds $1.95

This is possibly one of my favourites as a base for incense, or just smoldered by itself on charcoal. It is used in protection and prosperity rituals, and can be used as a substitute for storax.

H954 Betony, Wood (Stachys officinalis)

This is a hardy perennial with deep purple flowers that is protection, purification and love rituals. It grows to 1-2' tall in full sun to partial shade and requires rich, well drained soil. Tea made from the leaves is said to be effective against depression and despair and is said to be a good blood purifier. 10 seeds $1.95

This is a graceful pyramidal tree with striking blackish curling bark that, outside, is commonly found in bottom lands and along streams and rivers. Its twisting shape lends well to bonsai so it can be grown in pots indoors. Birch is most used in protection, purification and exorcism mixtures. 25 seeds $1.95

8570 Bittersweet (Celastrus scandens/Solanum dulcamara)

Bittersweet is a protective herb and can also be placed under your pillow to help you forget about a lost love. Also known as Bittersweet Nightshade, Bitter Nightshade, Felonwort, Violet-bloom and Woody Nightshade, it is usually used by carrying it or wearing it on the body. Although the plant had been abandoned for medical use, it has been tested in recent years as it contains beta-solamarine, a possible tumor-inhibiting agent. Some herbalists have prescribed extracts from the stems as a sedative, pain reliever, diuretic and for the treatment of asthma. However, the entire plant is considered poisonous and should not be used. This is a hardy, decorative vine with light green leaves and massive amounts of scarlet berries that is very good for landscaping. It requires little care, grows quickly and has beautiful colored foliage in fall. Trim branches in fall before frost for indoor decoration. It is a good highlight plant for trouble areas. 20 seeds $1.25

This beautiful plant only grows to about 10" tall with lavender blue flowers up to 1-1/2" wide that can be used in luck mixtures. It has a bushy, trailing habit that is perfect for hanging baskets and it is great in the shade. The seeds germinate in a couple of weeks but do not cover them when sowing as they need light to germinate. 50 seeds $1.95

In addition to the reputed ability of this herb to help eyesight, it can also be used magickally for protection.. The berries can be made into pies and eaten when you are under psychic attack.

4513 Bodhi (Ficus religiosa)

This tree is also known as Bo-Tree, Peepul Tree, Pipal, Pipul, Sacred Fig, Sacred Tree and Sacred Bo Tree. It is sacred to Vishnu and is used in sacred fires in the East. Both Budha and Vishnu were said to have been born under this plant. The leaves can be used in any mixture to give wisdom and are a wonderful addition to meditation incense. It is a beautiful house plant that produces edible figs. The figs grow in pairs and are small and flecked purple. They are, however, mostly limited to making preserves. The bark, leaves, shoots and fruits are all used medicinally in India. Also, the latex from the plant can be used as a sealing wax and to mend pottery. In Myanmar, the fibers have been used to make paper. The tree can reach up to 26' grown outside, but also makes a delightful house plant with lovely green foliage on a twisting, spiraling stalk. It is fast-growing. 12 seeds $1.95

A vigorous deciduous shrub with green rush-like stems up to 8 or 9 ft. Leaves are inconspicuous. Flowers are large, pea-shaped and fragrant. The dried stems make a great background for dried arrangement settings. Also makes a great garden decoration.
