We all had to start somewhere, sometime. (grin) Most of us just keep muddling along and hoping that what we do will turn out to the what we intended.
As for using the herbs - or any of the magickal recipes - it's the intent that's in your mind that works at least as much, if not more, than the specific herbs. Like the burning of candles for a ritual, it's a way of focusing our attention on what we need/want to do.
When you make your own things (and this can even be just anointing a candle with oil if you don't make your own), rather than just lighting an incense stick or a candle, is to put as much of your thought and concentration and intent into what you are doing for a longer period of time. That's not to say that using a stick or cone of incense you bought from the store won't work. I'm just saying that by making your own blends, you spend more time on the process and therefore are sending your wishes/intent to the powers that be with more strength.
When I lived in the car last year, it was impossible for me to burn candles or incense or do much of anything else, for that matter. BUT, it did not stop me from doing rituals. Luckily, I've been on my path(s) for so long that working without any tools - including candles and incense and oils - is not really a problem. I've learned to just shut out other things and concentrate on what I need/want as much as if I was actually using "things". I still use tools because every time I look at a burning candle, or smell incense burning, or go through other procedures, it serves to remind me of what I am doing for someone.
Relax and enjoy what you are doing. Your heart will help take the message from the incense to the powers that be. (smile)
The meanings of the herbs - from me, but not necessarily from everyone - are below. (smile)
The article is from the Winter '98 issue of The Herb Quarterly, and the lady author is Pamela D. Jacobsen.

Thanks for the recipe, Emily. Now, as to the meanings - at least mine. (grin)
2 oz Cocoa Butter
I always think of cocoa (since it's the stuff chocolate is made from) as a love or feel-good powder (or in this case, butter)
2 oz Sweet Almond Oil
Almonds are traditionally associated with prosperity.
1 Tab Avocado Oil
Avocadoes are a "lust" fruit.
So, you see, you have love or good feelings, prosperity and lust before you add anything else. Give me a little bit to think up other herbs and meanings - or check the incense recipes you posted when I repost with magickal meanings - for other ideas or let us know what kind of bars you would like to make - like prosperity, protection, love, etc.
