7858 Downy Hawthorn (Crataegus mollis)

This lovely ornamental shrub has brilliant-colored leaves and red fruit. It is excellent for garden backgrounds. Magickally, the hawthorn is used for fertility, chastity, happiness and fishing magic. It used to be used to decorate May poles and the trees were once believed to be Witches who had transformed themselves into trees. If you are lucky enough to have one on your property, and live far enough away from neighbours that you feel secure performing rituals outdoors, this is a magickal tree under which to perform those rituals. A close relative of our American Hazelnut, this plant produces larger trees and more fruit. It is cold hardy and resistant to most diseases. According to research books, it should start bearing fruit in 3-4 years from seeds. Does well in most soils. 4 seeds $2.50

H126 Christmas Rose/Black Hellebore (Helleborus niger)

Ahtough considered too dangerous even for use in magick today, Black Hellebore has been used in the past to confer invisibility and in exorcism rituals. It was also used, at one time, to induce astral projection. This plant is found growing wild in Europe and is being introduced as a garden plant in America. Extracts from the plant are used to treat the heart as well as depression, mania, epilepsy and skin problems. 9804 Giant Moonflower (Ipomoea alba var.)

This is a fast growing vine related to the Morning Glory. It is an annual and may climb to 10'. The flowers are tightly closed by day, but open at dusk to release a sweet fragrance. The flowers can be seen very clearly in moonlight. 10 seeds $2.50

9609 Morning Glory Tree (Ipomoea arborescens)

A thick stemmed and twining shrub to 10' with the most gorgeous six inch wide white flowers. The base becoming caudexed with age. Very unusual. 5 seeds $3.50

SO317 - Hawaiian Woodrose (Ipomoea)

A very interesting vine with deep cut 5-7 lobed foliage that can easily be grown inside. The yellow flowers are followed by woody pod fruits that when opened, resemble a wooden rose. 4 seeds $2.50

There are 3 Ipomoea species used in magick. I. tuberosa, Wood Rose also known as Ceylon Morning Glory, Frozen Roses and Spanish Arbor Vine, is carried to attract good luck. I. purga or I. jalapa are the famous High John the Conqueror used so much in Voodoo, Hoodoo and Santeria as well as some other African-based paths. Mama has been unable to find either I. purga or I. jalapa and if anyone out there has any idea where she could find either seeds or roots or plants, please contact Mama Yasmini with details. High John the Conqueror is used for a number of different purposes, including money - just wrap a piece of root in a green sachet anointing both with mint oil and carry it. It also breaks hexes and curses as well as protecting you from them. It is used to bring happiness, relieve depression, bring love, and can be added to virtually any recipe to encourge the success of that ritual.
